Didn't You Get the Memo

Description

Now this isn't a contest submission, but I wanted to give the first prompt a shot! XD

I really just wanted to show you my take on where it would go...so fighting with her was obvious, so I was trying to think of original poses for them to be in. XD So this was born!

This one was kind of hard to do, I don't know if I'm entirely happy with the poses but at the same time I love how Gambit came out! :D

I know his right arm looks off, but other then that I like it...oh and also Rogue's face is...off and the background is crap! So don't pay attention to it.

A bead of sweat moved down the side of Rogue's face, forgotten almost the moment she was aware of it. Strands of hair clung to her neck uncomfortably, and as she moved, dodging obstacles and slamming projectiles into the ground, she became less aware of what was happening to her and more aware of her teammates.

Or teammate, in this case. Gambit was the only one who had shown up early to practice that day, and both decided it might not hurt to get in a little extra time. Somehow, though, the exercise moved from being an effort of teamwork into a showcase of individual power.

Alpha male somethin'-or-other, she thought. It might not be true, but it made sense.

There was a slight break, and she grounded herself to assess their situation. A playing card, covered in pink light and sizzling with energy, flew past her face. She was unfazed by the explosion next to her, confident that he would have her back. Moments later, he landed from where ever he was in the sky and smirked at her.

"Missed," he said playfully, letting his bo staff slap the ground loudly. Using the force, he lifted himself over the length of the staff the same moment she backflipped out of the way of another simulated attack.

"Gettin' tired, sugah?" she called back, watching him maneuver through a small series of obstacles. She could almost see his smile from where he was, lifting himself over wires and cables until he was able to propel himself towards her. She immediately sank, watching his every move as he sailed to the ground, playing cards in hand.

"Y' t'inkin' 'bout callin' it quits, chere?" he bated, twisting himself to try and throw her off balance. She seemed to expect it, though, and instead of taking his bate, charged forward, lifting her legs to his head. He reacted quickly, performing backflip after backflip, cards still in hand, until he had given himself enough distance to stand upright. He smiled when he saw she had his discarded staff clutched in her hand. "Perhaps you jus' warmin' up?"

She used his staff to swipe away more projectiles, then tossed it back to him. "Though' that was the poin'," her eyes drifted upward to the Observation Deck, momentarily grateful they had decided to set the danger level in the room to five so that they could have a little bit of a break. "More important, though... where the heck is everyone?"

A card sailed passed her. He was by her side, grinning and smelling of sweat, an impish twinkle in his eye. "Didn' you get t'e memo, chere?" He leaned in closer, placing the staff behind her and blocking several ariel targets, resulting in him standing to her side while the staff projected outward like an extension of his arm. "Practice was cancelled."

He had two seconds to admire the dawning recognition before she twisted to attack him again. He had been right - destroying the note attached to the Danger Room wall the moment after he read it had been worth it.

Whoo, that one took longer than usual. That's what working 33 hours in three days will do to you. O_o
